Excuse me, how is this happening in 2017?

On Friday, this happened.

On Saturday evening, this was a public outcry, outrage really, to the above.

Then, the judicial courts, heard the people, and issued a stay on the executive order.

Anybody recall Nazi Germany in 1933?

Yes, I am not American. Which is exactly why I know that Democracy is a PRIVILEGE and not a RIGHT. If you do not protect your country’s democratic values and what it stands for, then be prepared to have it yanked right out from under your nose. It is precisely because I used to live in a democracy that is different from America’s, that I see, no matter how imperfect, America’s democracy is sacred and vulnerable at the same time.

People give lots of crap to peaceful protestors who go out and ’cause mayhem’ but HEY doing something, is better than complaining from behind your keyboard about people who are actually going OUT there to make a difference.

Saturday’s federal judge ruling, is an important milestone in the trajectory of human decency. As a nation, America backtracked 50 years on 20th January, 2017. Lets hope we can all trudge forward together. The world is on your side with regards to human decency America!

The first semblance of Fall

It’s been a while since I could open my windows and take in the cool breeze from the Hudson River. This summer in New York City has been so oppressive, and I’m just so thankful for the nice cool breeze today. Its around 24c now, which in american terms is around 75f. There is something so immeasurably simple, yet gratifying about the cool weather.

I woke up at 7am this morning and finished doing laundry, cleaned the house, made traditional Chinese ginseng chicken soup (for my salaryman), made healthy smoothie shakes for the both of us and its not even 11am. YAY! I love feeling like I have accomplished a lot before 12. Oh the possibilities for the rest of the day!

So here I am, with my Singapore mug filled with aromatic coffee and a magazine, taking in the sunshine, glorious cool weather, with a heart filled with gratitude for my life. Its the little things, its always the little things.

The mass exodus out of Manhattan

So, besides 3 friends leaving the city this month. Even my neighbor left this today. Out of the 7 units in this floor, every single one has left except us. They were very good neighbors, quiet and respectful. They have been living in JC for 2 weeks and apparently love it there, quiet, huge, brand new space and much cheaper than what they would have gotten in Manhattan.

Kris loves his 4 minute commute on foot tho, and I love in the city too, to be honest. My yoga studio, never ending list of restaurants, museums, walks along the hudson. We shall see, going to NJ and having a car and stuff seems fun too, we could explore the outdoors in the weekends and such. But walking and exploring the city is one of my fave pastimes and I hate to have to leave that behind. I don’t think NJ is quite as pedestrian friendly, driving everywhere seems a huge hassle. Anyhow, we have 12 more months (again!) before we have to decide.

Ahhhh. Life. So many dreams, so little cash.

Why would anyone want to leave this? Silly goats!

Moving to New York City

It’s funny the curve balls life throws at us, a month ago we were still planning our sailing adventure to Canada. Anyways that plan has been shelved aside for now, we have decided to move to NYC because Kris got a job offer in NYC.

Given the short time line of activities. We now have to fly to NYC from Feb 10 to March 11. Find an apartment, make it livable, settle my visa issues, get a new mobile line, research health insurance and the works.

After a month there, I will need to fly back to sign our marriage papers which we booked 3 months in advance for a date in the registry of marriages.

Henceforth this blog will talk about my/our lives in NYC!

Stay tuned for the adventures of CHARBOT!!!!!!!!
