Project Grateful 365: Grateful for a super supportive hubby!

Day 117: 2nd March 2013

So yesterday in bid to lug myself out of my mopey molly syndrome, I decided to force the hubby out of the house to watch a comedy – Identify Theft!

We both love Jason Batemen from the famous series of Arrested Development and I needed a laugh, so why not! 28 USD later, I was rather pleased. It was not fantastic but still quite funny and had a feel good element at the end. How selflessness gives way to selfishness and because of the former, you feel much better about your life. Melissa McCarthy was hilarious, very entertaining and executed her part very effortlessly.

Anyways, what transpired after the movie, was the one worth documenting and remembering. 🙂

As we were walking back home from the theatre, Kris kissed the top of my heart (#shortpeopleadvantages) and told me, ‘HAPPY 1 week wifelet’, (I totally forgot we got married a week ago :/ ) and proceeded to tell me he marked the date in the 2014 calendar coz he was afraid he would forget. HOW SWEET IS THAT BOY? I felt very loved.

As we were walking along, I told him more about graduate school and the expenses and how I was worried that following my dreams/going into graduate school doing the things I want might not be a sensible financial decision and blah blah blah. And he says, ‘Don’t worry about the money, just do the things you want and I’ll take care of the rest, do the things you’re passionate about and the things that make you happy!!’

So yes, today I feel grateful for having married such a wonderful hubby, because its not as it we have tons of cash lying around, yet he’s willing to take on (future) financial strains/inconveniences to help support my dream.

edit: After running some numbers vaguely through my head, I think its more prudent for me to get a job for a year. (If I can that is *crosses fingers*, given the dire job market situation in the US) Then later study part time and work part time in graduate school. I can do it *pumps fist*!!!!! First step, register for the GREs in Nov 2013! Or maybe first step, consolidate those AOS papers so I can file for the GC and get my Employment Pass!!!!

Project Grateful 365: Grateful for being a housewife

Day 107: Grateful for being a housewife

When I first got this role and introduced myself as one, you could practically see the thought bubble of people going, ‘Oh, that’s all’, ‘Oh, she must be dumb then’, ‘Oh, what a useless waste of life’, ‘Oh, she must be one of those who marry rich men.’

Right now, I just don’t give a s**t. People are entitled to think whatever they want, judge me however I want. But hey, sticks and stones can break my bones, but words (and maybe thought bubbles) can never harm me. Unless I let them.

I wondered, if it was more me than them at first tho. I personally didn’t want to assume that role, I had lots of resistance and deep anger towards the VISA process for subjected me to “FORCED HOUSEWIFE SHIP’. HAHA

But you know what? NOW I’m JUST LOVING it.

(Hear Hear Kris Beevers!)

There is great joy in having a nice warm loving and CLEAN house.

I like giving Kris and myself a welcoming home to return too, when he has had a tiring day and relaxing in our own space.

He comes back whiny and tired and there’s always someone willing to listen to him (nag sometimes, but mostly listen) and prepare a hot and yummy meal.

I’m refreshed and rejuvenated at the end of the day, and so can be a cheery (MOST days) person for him to return home too. As opposed to having two stressed out and tired people having take out together. So I say we both have it good. 🙂

At the corner of my room, lies a cute lil boi and a cute lil doggie! (Digital photo frame, super cute)

Project Grateful 365: Grateful for happy hour oysters ($1US) and the New York Public Library at Byrant Park

Day 106

19th Feb 2013

Today I am grateful for HH oysters. Super fresh and super yums! Met some nice people too, various walks of life, got along pretty well, shall join them on their next hike out! One of them even runs a non-profit and another was a pyscho-analyst for young children. Both in fields I’m interested in. Also meet another lady who’s a nurse and we hit along pretty well. Guess my project make new friends in the city is going pretty okay. I’ve been described as approachable, bubbly and friendly, not traits I really associate with me naturally really. I have to try and be those states, my natural self (IMHO) is pensive, cynical, and overly harsh on myself. But maybe, just maybe I’m actually quite friendly. 😛

IMG_2010Mega Library and Citipond Ice Rink! Loved the library, very old school!

Made dinner for the BOT before I left for HH, but he went for a ‘business meeting’ drinking (and got drunk! Not majorly but drunk enough to laugh very happily when I asked him to walk a straight line while denying that he was drunk!). So I came home before him and ate his bacon! HEE HEE HEE!

Project Grateful 365: Day 84

Grateful that we BOTH managed to use our miles to get upgraded for the DBX to JFK flight!

Initially I was a bit bumped because the miles I had been collecting for 2/3 years were expiring and the next stage of my visa process disallows me to leave the US for the most part of 2013. (I know right, first they don’t allow me to enter, then don’t allow me to leave!!!!!!)

There were some delays from the consulate in processing my passport so I had to change my flight back to the US. When I called them (emirates) I casually asked if I could use my miles to do an upgrade (I wasn’t that hopefully because it was less than a week to the day of the flight.)

LO AND BEHOLD! I managed to get us BOTH upgraded tickets with our miles, which was 90,000 miles in total. It wiped out our accounts, but totally worth it IMHO, coz we can’t use it for any flights anyways. The flights from NYC are only to DUBAI and hence require quite a bit more miles a bit to redeem an economy class ticket.

I was beside myself in happiness. What a way to travel to NYC to sign papers at city hall. I’m so excited to formally start my life in NYC, IN STYLE!!!!!!!!

Going to collect my passport with my K1 visa in a few hours. MEGAAAAAAAA YAYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Project Grateful 365: Day 78 and 79

24th and 25th January 2013

On the 24th, I’m glad I got time to spend with my closest gfs from NUS! I didn’t take any pictures because we meet up at a house (incomplete group) before we went to one of their grandma’s wake where it was full attendance. (Its highly inappropriate to take photos at a wake in Singapore)

Except of the loss, everyone was in a good place, happy and healthy and so, I am grateful that all the people I love are happy. Wakes remind me of the temporal nature of life and how one must remember to treasure the days you’re alive to be happy and also to be to be a source of joy to others when you’re alive.

Kris and myself also cheered up someone special with some flowers, so it was a happy day! I now know why its better to give than receive! Spreading JOY is FUN!

On the 25th, I met with my bestest friends from secondary school. It was a play date for two babies, iceicebaby and Jojo’s little nat nat!

And then, in the afternoon it was Ice Ice Baby’s Day out. Did I tell you that I feel super grateful because I have very little time in Singapore and two people on Friday took leave to spend time with me? (And Ice, I alone might not have commanded that authority, but that ball of cuteness surely can)

I love him so much, he’s like a ball of cuteness!

My precious precious nephew

I am a PANK!

Professional Aunty No Kids.

As for those who have been asking me when is my turn continuously. COPULATION is a private affair. Please have some sense of space thank you very much. I think in this sense, Americans have way more tact compared to Singaporeans and virtually nobody in America has asked, “when’s your turn?’

Possibly because

A) They are intelligent enough to know that if I wanted kids NOW, I would be making babies at home instead of wasting my time having a conversation with you. I say waste because you’re asking me a very private question, which you shouldn’t be asking.

B) It really is a private affair! Americans are less nosey, actually more like less obviously nosey. 😛 Asians are really IN YOUR FACE. I’m guilty of that too, need to slowly change! I have asked people people about kids, but I have since stopped because with my new status, I have developed empathy for them. Apologies to the rest I asked before I reached this stage of realization!

C) I mean what happens IF (and I STRESS IF) we had been trying and just cannot have one. I mean how painful will it be for a couple to be reminded CONSTANTLY that they unable to have a kid?

D) Stop being Singaporean and constantly having to chase for a certificate! University certificate, Marriage Certificate, Certificate of Entitlement (Cars), Certificate of Home(title deed for property) and Birth Certificate… blah blah. I mean enjoy your LIFE NOW, stop chasing for stuff constantly!

Sorry to end off with a rant, but its important to me

Going to play with little bub now! Wheeeeeee
